Get to Know Mikey Gambino
Customers at Ceramic Supply Chicago (CSC) may have noticed that they are seeing more of Mikey Gambino in the retail store lately. Gambino had been a regular customer at CSC for many years when he took on part time work in customer sales in August of 2023. This past April, he began full-time work and has been a great help for CSC and customers alike.
A 2023 Rochester Institute of Technology graduate in both Ceramics and Industrial Design, Gambino has been making pots since high school. His father, an attorney, also dabbled in clay as an undergraduate. When his son showed the same interest, father and son built a small studio in the basement of their Chicago home. Mikey focused on plaster mold techniques while his dad rekindled his interest and renewed his technique, recapturing a dream from his youth.
After earning his degree, Gambino earned the one-year Windgate-Lamar Grant, issued by The Center for Craft in Asheville, NC, which allowed him to continue his ceramic practice after college. He sells on his website, at craft shows, and on consignment at retailers in Chicago, New York, and Asheville.
Gambino is the face of CSC, greeting customers in the retail shop. He manages the inventory, helps customers, and advises them on the use of the products. With busy days spent at work, he spends most evenings in his home studio and teaches one night a week at Terra Incognito in Oak Park.
